Last Updated: June 30, 2026
On June 29, 2026, a fire broke out near Çandarlı Neighborhood in Dikili district of İzmir and quickly spread to olive groves and scrubland due to strong winds. After intense aerial and ground efforts throughout the day, the fire was brought under control, and cooling operations are ongoing in the area.
During this process, many of our guests reached out to us asking questions such as, “Is it safe to vacation in Dikili?”, “Are boat tours still operating?”, and “Are Midilli ferry services affected?” In this article, we summarize the current situation and provide accurate information for our guests planning to travel.
Where Did the Fire Start?
The fire started in an agricultural and olive grove area near Çandarlı Neighborhood. Due to the strong wind, the flames quickly spread to scrubland and forested areas, and teams from the Forest Regional Directorate and the fire department responded with numerous aircraft, fire engines, and personnel.
As a precaution, some residential areas were evacuated, and thanks to the teams’ intensive efforts, the fire was prevented from reaching larger populated areas.
The Fire Has Been Brought Under Control
According to official statements, the fire was brought under control late at night on the same day. Teams are continuing cooling operations in the area to prevent any possible flare-ups.
In such incidents, “brought under control” means that the fire’s active spread has been stopped. However, for safety reasons, teams continue working in the area for some time afterward.
Is Holidaying in Dikili Still Continuing?
Yes.
The fire affected a specific area and does not encompass all of Dikili. The district center, coastal areas, and tourism activities continue their normal daily routine. That said, in the event of natural disasters, it is important to follow official statements for the most accurate information.
Have Boat Tours and Midilli Ferries Been Affected?
The area where the fire occurred is separate from sea tourism activities.
As of the time of publication, there has been no official announcement stating that boat tours or Midilli ferry services have generally been canceled. However, since there may be occasional last-minute changes due to weather conditions or safety measures, it is recommended to obtain updated information before traveling.
Our Shared Responsibility in Fires
During the summer months, rising temperatures and strong winds significantly increase the fire risk in the Aegean Region.
To protect nature:
- Do not throw cigarette butts into nature.
- Do not light fires in forested areas.
- Do not leave glass bottles or flammable waste in nature.
- Do not neglect clearing dry grass in fields and gardens.
- If you see smoke or flames, call the 112 Emergency Call Center without delay.
A small act of negligence can destroy the habitat of thousands of trees and many living creatures.
