Greek Islands Travel Guide: Island Selection and Trip Planning

When choosing among the Greek islands, do not look only at proximity to the coast. The places you want to visit, length of stay, accommodation area and mode of transport all matter together. A culture- and food-focused program does not require the same preparation as a beach holiday or a cruise stop.

Lesbos, Chios and Samos

On Lesbos, Mytilene, Molyvos, Petra and Plomari offer different sightseeing focuses. On Chios, Pyrgi, Mesta and Kampos, and on Samos, Pythagorion, Kokkari and Vathy can shape your itinerary. First decide whether you will use a car and where you will stay. For Lesbos, you can review our Dikili-based services and current port guides together.

Kos and Rhodes

On Kos, consider the town center, cultural sites and coastal excursions together; on Rhodes, consider the Old Town and Lindos as different areas to visit. Do not narrow each island down to a single profile suited only to young people or only to families. Different holiday styles can be built on the same destination.

Crete requires a separate travel plan

Evaluate Crete separately, either as a cruise port call or as an island trip with overnight stays. Rather than squeezing Hania, Rethymno and Heraklion into one short visit, set priorities. Current flight options, ship schedules and transport around the island should be checked according to your travel dates.

Transport, documents and service scope

The departure point in Turkey and the ship's actual departure port may be different. Add passport control, check-in and land transfer times to your sea crossing. Visa and entry requirements should be confirmed according to your passport and current regulations; do not present all the islands under the same visa-on-arrival scheme for the islands. You can obtain date and scope information from our current ferry service or our team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Decide together on the places you want to see, your length of stay, and your mode of transport. A cultural trip, a coastal holiday, and a cruise stopover each require different itineraries. You can start with the relevant island guides.

Consider Crete as either an overnight stay or a cruise port stop, and evaluate the two separately. Choose your priority between Hania, Rethymno or Heraklion, and plan transportation and timing accordingly.

Evaluate the transportation, length of stay, and return plan for each stage separately. In this guide, mentioning the islands together does not mean that there is a direct service or a guaranteed transfer between them on a specific date.
