Tobacco Displays on Lesvos: Brands and Product Categories
Greek cigarette brands, international names and newer nicotine products observed on local shelves. This is descriptive information, not a recommendation to use or buy tobacco or nicotine products.
A display photographed on Lesvos shows conventional cigarettes, heated-tobacco products and rolling accessories together.
Karelia and ASSOS appear alongside Marlboro and Davidoff, while other shelves carry TEREA, DELIA, LEVIA and EVO. The display illustrates the coexistence of established Greek cigarette brands and newer nicotine-product categories.

What Makes These Displays Different?
Visitors to Lesvos notice not only narrow streets, stone houses, tavernas and Aegean views. Displays in markets, petrol stations and kiosks can also look different from those in Türkiye.
Alongside familiar international brands are Greek names such as Karelia and ASSOS, less familiar European brands, and products associated with IQOS and Ploom. A display can therefore offer a small glimpse into changing consumption patterns in Greece.
The range varies by outlet and date. This article describes products visible in photographs taken on Lesvos and brand families encountered in Greece; it is not a live stock list.
1. Karelia: An Established Greek Name
Karelia is one of the Greek names visible in local displays. Products from the long-established Karelia Tobacco Company are found across Greece.
The photographed shelves show Karelia Blue, Karelia 100’s and other light-coloured packs. Turkish visitors may recognise a difference in visibility compared with shelves in Türkiye.

2. George Karelias & Sons: Traditional Packaging
George Karelias & Sons is a recognisable product family within the Karelia group. Cream and gold packaging gives it a more traditional appearance than many modern cigarette packs. This packaging is one of the details visitors may notice when comparing Greek and international brands.
3. ASSOS — ΑΣΣΟΣ
ASSOS is another long-established cigarette name in Greece. Red-and-white packs and other variants appear in some local displays, reflecting the Greek part of the market.
4. Marlboro: A Familiar International Name
The photographs include Marlboro Red, Gold, blue-coloured series and other variants. Large Greek-language health warnings and pictorial warnings can make the packs look different from those familiar to visitors from Türkiye.
5. Davidoff and JPS
Davidoff and John Player Special (JPS) are among the other international brands visible in displays on Lesvos. The photographs show lighter-coloured Davidoff packs and JPS Gold or similar series.
6. SL Line and Delphi
SL Line and Delphi may be less familiar to Turkish visitors. The photographed display includes SL Line Blue, Gold and Ciel, together with blue, gold and light-coloured Delphi packs. Slim and long formats may be more noticeable than in comparable Turkish displays.
7. Muratti, Pall Mall, Rothmans, Philip Morris, L&M and Lucky Strike
Displays are not limited to a few major brands. Other international names represented at different outlets include Muratti, Pall Mall, Rothmans, Philip Morris, L&M and Lucky Strike. Variants can differ from those seen in Türkiye, including at small kiosks known as periptera.

More Than Conventional Cigarettes
One noticeable feature of modern displays is the space given to newer nicotine products alongside conventional cigarettes. At the photographed outlet, a substantial part of the upper shelves was occupied by TEREA, DELIA and LEVIA products associated with the IQOS ILUMA system. EVO and other electronic-product displays appeared nearby.
TEREA, DELIA and LEVIA on an upper shelf, with conventional cigarette brands below.
TEREA
TEREA is a heated-tobacco stick family intended for IQOS ILUMA devices. Different pack colours and variants may be visible. Heating rather than conventional combustion distinguishes this category, but it remains a nicotine-containing tobacco product and is not risk-free.
DELIA
DELIA is another product family associated with the IQOS ILUMA system. The photographed shelf shows several pack colours. Although intended for the same device family as TEREA, product names and blend options differ.
LEVIA
LEVIA is distinguished by tobacco-free sticks that still contain nicotine. “Tobacco-free” therefore does not mean “nicotine-free” or “risk-free”. These are a separate category from conventional cigarettes and are intended for compatible devices.
EVO and Ploom
The large EVO display in the photograph relates to the Ploom system. EVO is a heated-tobacco stick family developed for Ploom devices. TEREA and EVO may look like similar product categories, but they belong to different device systems and should not be treated as interchangeable.
How the Main Product Categories Differ
- Conventional cigarettes: examples include Marlboro, Karelia and ASSOS; they contain tobacco that is burned.
- Heated tobacco: examples include TEREA, DELIA and EVO; tobacco is heated in a compatible device.
- Tobacco-free nicotine sticks: LEVIA is an example; these contain nicotine without tobacco and belong to a compatible-device system.
- Electronic vapour products: products such as VEEV generally contain no tobacco leaf and produce an aerosol from liquid.
Rolling Tobacco and Accessories
The photographs also show products associated with rolling tobacco, including Rizla+, Gizeh and Drum, alongside papers, filters and accessories.
Rizla+ series visible in such displays may include Thin Blue, Regular White, Regular Orange, Medium Thin Black and Micron. The colours relate to paper size, thickness and other paper characteristics, rather than indicating the nicotine strength of a cigarette.
Why Does Packaging Look Different from Türkiye?
As an EU member, Greece uses large text and pictorial health warnings on tobacco packaging. Greek-language warnings occupy a substantial part of the pack, so even a familiar brand can look different.
Brand names, series, colours and availability can also vary by country. A pack with a similar colour should not be assumed to be identical to its Turkish counterpart.
Where These Types of Displays Are Encountered
Such displays can form part of everyday retail settings in central Mytilene and other island settlements, including kiosks, small markets and petrol-station shops. The word periptero is commonly used for a Greek kiosk.
Displays in Molivos, Petra, Plomari and Mytilene need not contain the same products. Newer product variants and stock can differ by outlet. This article does not identify a particular seller or guarantee availability.
A Display as a Glimpse of Everyday Island Life
Understanding Lesvos also involves noticing everyday details: ordering coffee, seeing a periptero, comparing local products or recognising an established Greek brand.
The presence of long-standing names such as Karelia and ASSOS alongside international brands and newer product categories illustrates changes in Greek consumer culture. It is an observation about local retail life, not an endorsement.
