Dahab and Blue Hole Diving Travel Guide

Dahab, on the Sinai coast, is a base for combining diving, seaside life and relaxation. It can be visited from Sharm El Sheikh or chosen as a destination for an overnight stay. Blue Hole is one of several diving options around Dahab.

Planning a Dahab trip

Shore dives, beach time, waterfront cafés and local life can create different daily plans for different travellers. Consider the location of the dive centre and whether your accommodation suits your routine. A day trip from Sharm should specify the road transfer, equipment transport and return arrangements.

What is Blue Hole?

Blue Hole is a well-known shore-access dive area near Dahab. Different routes may be described under this name. A programme labelled “Blue Hole” does not by itself explain which section will be visited or whether it suits every diver.

Recreational routes and the Arch are different

The deep Arch passage is not an extension of an ordinary shore or recreational dive. DAN states that it should be considered only by trained and prepared technical divers. A recreational certification or a large number of logged dives does not alone establish technical-diving competence.

The current programme must clearly state the route, training limits and operator conditions. This guide does not offer the Arch passage as a tour activity or provide depth or passage instructions.

Does easy shore access mean an easy dive?

No. A short land journey does not determine underwater conditions. Entry, exit, currents, experience and the planned section must be assessed together. Ask the operator exactly which service and route an offer includes.

Dahab for non-diving travellers

Beach relaxation and cafés can form part of a separate programme. Snorkelling requires its own participation and site assessment. Accompanying a diver does not automatically include the same water activity or a guided excursion.

What should the offer clarify?

  • Is accommodation in Dahab or Sharm?
  • Does the programme include shore diving, training or another activity?
  • Are the planned route and experience assessment stated in writing?
  • Which transfers, equipment, local fees and meals are included?
  • What alternatives apply if a diver or the weather is unsuitable?

Does every Sharm diving package include Blue Hole?

No. Transport to Dahab and the diving service must be explicitly included in the current package. The scope of an old programme does not automatically carry over to a new offer.

Blue Hole is a famous shore-accessible diving site near Dahab. Different routes can be discussed under the name of the area. The word "Blue Hole" in a program does not, on its own, explain which section will be visited or whether it is suitable for every diver.

At the beach, relaxing and spending time in cafes can be part of the program alongside diving. If snorkeling is desired, separate participation and site suitability are assessed. Accompanying a diving day does not mean taking part in the same water activity or joining a guided tour.

Coastal dives, beach time, seaside cafés and local life can create separate day flows for different participants. Consider not only proximity to the dive center but also how well the accommodation suits your daily lifestyle preferences. If you are coming on a day trip from Sharm, the road transfer, equipment transport and return plan should also be explained separately.

No. A short road journey does not determine the underwater conditions. Entry and exit points, current, the diver's experience and the planned section are all evaluated together. Especially for offers that mention different route names, ask the operator which service you are signing up for.
