A Day in Central İzmir: Konak and the Gulf Shore

For first-time visitors to İzmir, Konak is a useful starting point for getting to know the city center. The square, historic buildings and the gulf shoreline each add a different perspective to the visit. Rather than trying to finish the entire center in one day, combining a few spots with walks and breaks makes for a more comfortable start.

What to look at in Konak Square

The Clock Tower is the square's most recognizable landmark. Built in 1901, the structure can be appreciated not only as an object to photograph but also together with the public space around it. Look at the square from its different sides to observe how the buildings, crossings and everyday movement come together. To examine a small detail, stop without interrupting the flow of the crowd.

Give the seafront its own time

After the square, you can choose a walk and a break by the sea. The view of the gulf slows down the rush of getting from one place to another in the city. You do not have to walk the entire long promenade; decide your starting and turning points according to your own stamina. On hot or windy days, split the schedule into shorter sections.

Adding the bazaar to the same day

Moving on to Kemeraltı completes the seafront experience with shopping and street life. However, rather than allotting only a short transition time to the bazaar, set aside a separate section according to your interests. Keep in mind that meals, photo stops and shopping breaks can extend your walking time.

Plan the province trip separately

Important sites within the province, such as Ephesus or Bergama, are not a continuation of a walk in the center. Treating them as the main visit of another day lets you get to know different faces of İzmir without rushing.

The file generally includes a valid passport and copy, recent biometric photographs, the completed and signed application form, financial documents, a return ferry booking and accommodation confirmation. Additional documents may be required for your circumstances.

Ask GÜVENTUR for the current checklist and submission deadline before preparing your file. Passport validity, blank pages, photograph requirements and supporting documents must meet the Greek authorities’ current rules. Submitting documents does not guarantee visa approval or entry.

Travellers must carry a valid passport and meet the entry requirements applicable to their nationality and passport type. Turkish citizens holding ordinary passports generally need a valid Schengen visa or an approved visa under the Greek island facilitated-entry scheme, where available.

Visa exemptions apply to certain Turkish special, service and diplomatic passport holders. These rules do not apply automatically to travellers of other nationalities. GÜVENTUR offers day trips, 2-day tours with 1 night and 3-day tours with 2 nights on Lesvos. Day trips usually return on the same day; overnight programmes allow more time to explore the island.

Depending on the itinerary, visits may include Molyvos, Petra, Plomari or Agiasos. Not every programme visits every destination. Check the selected tour page for the exact itinerary, accommodation, departure times and included services.

Children and infants need their own valid travel documents and must be included in the ferry booking. Visa requirements depend on the child’s nationality and passport type; being a child does not by itself create a visa exemption.

Child and infant fares, age limits and any visa-related charges vary by operator and programme. Check the selected trip and contact GÜVENTUR about the documents needed for minors, including any consent or accompanying-adult requirements.
